This session will flow on from the recorded keynote offered by Bill McKibben and offer a space for insights and reflections.
Bill McKibben is one of America's leading writers and activists on the climate and ecological crisis we face. He is the founder of 350,org, an organization that has been tremendously successful in reducing the investments of universities, corporations, pension funds and more in oil, gas and other carbon generating activities. Bill has recorded a message for the Gathering that informs us on being effective proponents of a crucial shift to a carbon neutral future.
Bill McKibben's message to us will be followed by a discussion around the issues he has raised, moderated by Ralph White from the New York Open Center. We will break into small groups to share our views on the most effective contributions we as centers and individuals can make to addressing the climate crisis. This will be followed by a general discussion of these vital issues.
We will also speak with Miguel Kavlin from Bolivia and his colleague, Helen, whose work with Sacha Runa Healing Community and their retreat center, Allkamari, outside La Paz, and Wizard Mountain in the Amazon, will offer us a perspective from Latin America on the climate crisis, and how the indigenous communities of the Andes see the challenge and opportunity we face.
Throughout the Gathering we’ll hear from friends and colleagues within the network with a myriad of opportunities for heartfelt discussion. Engage or simply relax and feel supported by the community of like minded souls.
